Heartburn Ulcers

Receiving 5FU for bowel cancer (fleurouracil) painful ulcers in my mouth, & a sort of lump in my throat?
I use the mouthwashes the hospital gave me, and have also been sucking the Strepsils with the anaesthetic action in them…all to no avail. Obviously the lump in my throat is the same sort of side effect as the mouth ulcers (I also get heartburn) but it gets all ‘cloggy’ with what feels like catarrh, and then it feels almost like I’m going to choke. What on earth can I do? The hospital prescribed Piriton, but I only started taking it today, so it won’t kick in for a few days I guess.
I just want to feel better than I do at present. Haven’t had this type of side effect before now, although I had loads of others when on Oxaliplatin (they’ve stopped that now) I only have two cycles of 5FU to go, but I’m on the verge of thinking I can’t take this any more.
Has anyone got any advice please?
Please talk to your oncologist and explain your uncomfortable side effects. My mom, who had stomach cancer, has some of these side effects too. I know that she was given something to help her but unfortunately I don’t remember what it was. Do not suffer in silence. There are medications that can help. I hope you feel better soon.
