Gastric Acid

What is the mechanism of excess gastric acid production?
Hi! I know the mechanism of parietal cell stimulation and secretion, but I know that excess acid is a contributing factor to peptic ulcer formation (as there are drugs used to treat ulcers, which reduce acid production). But I can’t find it anywhere exactly how excess gastric acid is produced, as in, is there more stimulation by the vagus nerve, or more histamine produced, etc, and why would that occur? Also why does excess acid contribute to the formation of peptic ulcers? I’m a bit confused as I’ve found out that H. pylori creates a local alkaline environment – so surely a reduction in acid would increase H. pylori and make the situation worse?
Hope you can help!!
Thanks xxx
