Digestive enzymes supplements?

My acupuncturist just put me on a digestive enzyme to help break down food and process correctly. Its called Bil. I had a lot of gas and heartburn from the start. She said it's normal, it's my body trying to fix things. Could someone please describe what that means?

I would not depend on the digestive enzymes unless you have been told by a physician specializing in gastroenterology and nutrition you need to take these, because the medical examinations indicate that you have a problem producing your own.
