How often should a person over 55 years have a colonoscopy?
My elderly mother had first colonoscopy at 70 + years. The doctor told her she would not need another for 10 years. I thought the procedure was like many others who must be done every two years or more. Does anyone know?
I saw this on Medical News Today: "According to Heinz-Josef Lenz, MD, associate director of the Gastrointestinal Oncology Program at USC / Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, the general recommendation for a baseline colonoscopy is beginning at age 50 and then every three to five years. "If your grandmother, it must have been due to his advanced age that Another was recommended after 10 years. The procedure itself is very stressful for me to imagine that this should be done as often as warranted, but not too frequent cause of unnecessary morbidity.
