The causes of heartburn

The main course of heartburn for most people occurs is when many of us suddenly become a burning sensation that starts in the chest. It always happened when we ate. After our stomachs have digested the food, gastric juices can sometimes flow into the throat,
or we called the esophagus. When this happens lining the esophagus becomes irritated and a burning sensation may be felt particularly close to the heart.

The body part that is responsible heartburn occurring is the lower esophageal sphincter, or LES as it is sometimes called. This valve is responsible for organizing the juices stomach in our stomachs. The intestines of the stomach are capable of dealing with the stomach acids. However if for any reason the LES relaxes then stomach juices can flow into the esophagus and cause heartburn started.

Walls or skin of the esophagus are very thin, hence the esophagus can get irritated by the acidity of gastric juice. There are some factors in the cause of heartburn occur. Here is a list of what is motivated to be part of the main reasons for heartburn.

Coffee, tea and other beverages that contain caffeine can relax the lower esophageal sphincter, allowing the stomach juices to flow into the esophagus. Chocolate contains certain amounts of a substance called theobromine.

This compound occurs naturally in many plants to caffeine. Theobromine relaxes the LES muscle and causes the stomach acid to shoot up into the esophagus leading to heartburn.

Fried and fatty foods tend to slow down the digestion process. This leads to food that is preserved in the stomach for a long period. This results in an increase in pressure in the stomach. This rise in pressure weakens the LES allowing stomach acid to pass into the esophagus.

Tomatoes and tomato products, and alcohol also cause the LES to relax. These foods lead to increased production stomach acid. This is another factor to heartburn.

The chemicals in cigarettes tobacco weaken the LES as the chemicals pass from the lungs into the blood.
Eating large amounts of food anytime of the day puts extra pressure on your sphincter lower esophagus. There is a chance that some of this digested food will end up in the esophagus. This is particularly true in night to have a great dinner just before bedtime resulted in digesting food to press harder against your LES.

Food & Drink many citrus fruits and juices also causes the LES to relax. This is another cause of heartburn.

The last issue of heartburn, is clothing that restricts your stomach. As the clothes press against the stomach walls they force the food against the LES.

To prevent heartburn from occurring, the best is to change your lifestyle to avoid many of the factors examined in the above that cause heartburn.
